Man in life-threatening condition after officer-involved shooting

A man in his 30s is recovering in hospital after being shot by Calgary police. He was transported in life-threatening condition.

Police say they were called to a domestic incident in the city’s northeast on Wednesday afternoon. When officers arrived, the suspect had left the scene. He was tracked to another home.

Police had information the man might be armed, and several attempts were made to call him out of a garage at the residence, but they were unsuccessful.

Several hours later, the suspect exited the garage and police say the matter “continued to escalate,” resulting in the man being shot.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is now investigating.
