Alberta launches mentorship program to help women climb corporate ladder

The Alberta government is launching a new mentorship program that focuses on women in the workforce.

Status of Women Minister Stephanie McLean made the announcement Wednesday afternoon at the Telus Convention Centre.

It aims to increase gender equality among the corporate world.

Minister Stephanie McLean says first they found successful women in the Calgary business community.

“So then we asked those organizations to identify women who were stalled in their career, who felt that they were stalled but nevertheless eager high flyers who have a lot of potential and who are really looking at how to break through that glass ceiling and get ahead.”

McLean adds seven mentors and mentees have been matched up and will meet throughout the duration of the six month pilot project.

She says it’s not just about getting advice from someone with invaluable experience but it also helps them expand their network.

Some organizations who are taking part include Calgary Economic Development and the University of Calgary.
