Art auction company looks for hidden gems

Hidden treasures worth thousands of dollars could be sitting in your attic collecting dust.

The Consignor’s Nationwide Treasure Hunt for Art wants to see those pieces while in Calgary.

Art Specialist Bob Cowley talks about a piece a Toronto family received by chance, in an exchange for strudels with a notable Canadian artist.

He said after a consultation with Consignor Canadian Fine Art, that piece sold for $40,000 at an auction.

“And it hung on their wall for 40 years, and while it was a reminder of a very special day and connection with this interesting individual, there was really no concept of the fact that this artist was a celebrated Canadian artist,” Cowley said.

Calgarians are encouraged to book an appointment and bring up to three works of art to the Glenbow Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
