Nenshi among Canadian mayors hoping to attract Amazon to city

The City of Calgary is among several Canadian cities hoping online retail giant, Amazon.com will take up residence within its limits.

Amazon announced intentions, Thursday, to add a second North American headquarter. The e-commerce powerhouse’s current Seattle campus consists of eight million square feet, 33 buildings and employs more than 40,000 people.

A second facility could produce 50,000 new full-time jobs.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi told reporters Calgary is a natural fit for Amazon’s needs. He said his office has been working with Calgary Economic Development to attract big business names, like Amazon.

Toronto, Vancouver, and other Canadian jurisdictions are also trying to entice the online corporation.
