Public art murals brightening up the Beltline neighborhood

The Beltline neighbourhoods of Connaught and Victoria Park are getting a mural makeover.
Local artists are reviving the side of buildings as part of a public art project spearheaded by City Councillor Evan Woolley who championed the idea through the Beltline Investment Fund.
Calgarians can now see the first piece done by Calgary art student Cassie Suche, on the wall of the Mona Lisa Artist’s Materials building in the southwest.
President of the Beltline Neighborhoods Association Peter Oliver explains there is no shortage of people wanting to get involved.
“We’ve seen a lot of excitement from the local businesses who want to participate in allowing there wall to be used for a mural and also from local artists who are excited about getting to work on some of these projects.”
Oliver adds the project is being funded entirely by new developments in the Beltline, they plan to put up three or four more pieces this season and hopefully more in the future.
Artists looking to take part can put in a proposal online, submissions are being accepted until the end of this month.
