Calgary’s delinquency level is slowing down

Credit Monitoring Service TransUnion says Alberta is slowly starting to crawl out of its economic doldrums, at least on the personal debt front.

In its second quarter report, the province is still second in the country with a 3.14 per cent 90 day delinquency rate, but TransUnion’s Matt Fabian said some light is starting to creep in.

“The growing delinquency level seems to be slowing, and absolutely the debt level is slowing as well,” Fabian said.

Albertans lead the way in non-mortgage debt levels with an average of nearly $28,000 per person, that’s more than six-grand higher than the national level.

However, the rate of debt growth here was lower than it was nationwide.
