Dog killed by handgun in Coaldale

A dog has been killed in a case of animal cruelty in southern Alberta.

Mounties are investigating after a man was witnessed putting down his dog with a handgun around 5:30 Monday night.

Officers say the pet was run over while running beside the vehicle, just prior to being put down.

It’s reported the man was exercising the dog at the time.

RCMP are now looking for the person and vehicle responsible.

The man is described as being in his thirties, about six feet tall and weighs 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing sweat pants at the time.

The vehicle involved is described as an older model silver Chrysler 300 with black tinted windows and a cargo mesh separating the back seats from the front.
