N.E. Calgary wading park closed after reports of cuts, scrapes

A wading pool in the city’s northeast is closed while crews repair rough spots that cut some children’s feet.

Since the Prairie Winds Park pool opened last week, there have been 39 calls about abrasions and scraping.

“We did some temporary repairs last week on the areas that were identified,” explained Doug Marter with Calgary Parks. “We’re going in now doing the entire pool, wherever we need to grind or sand.

He added there’s also a chlorine issue to fix because a routine inspection found it didn’t have a functioning automatic chlorine controller, meaning the water wasn’t getting disinfected.

Officials stated the pool will not reopen until every problem is fixed, but there’s no timeline for when the work will be done.
