Sunshine Village closes again for Verdant Creek wildfire

Banff Sunshine Village will be closed again, starting Monday, as crews continue to battle a wildfire near Verdant Creek.

Hot, dry and windy conditions have resulted in shifting flames. The blaze has grown into the northern Simpson area.

All guests and staff at the popular mountain resort will be re-located, until further notice. Parks Canada will continue to monitor the situation.

The Verdant Creek fire is 5,100 hectares in size, burning in Kootenay National Park, near the border of Banff National Park.

Officials say there is no threat to communities in the Bow Valley, and crews are still trying to contain the flames.
