Postal worker injuries increased between 2011, 2015: report

A new report on injuries to federal employees suggests postal worker injuries shot up between 2011 and 2015. But, Canada Post disagrees.

The federal report shows more than seven disabling injuries, out of every one hundred postal workers in 2015, but Canada Post spokesperson, Jon Hamilton told 660NEWS, the mail carrier’s own data is different.

“When you look at lost time injuries: the frequency has been declining in the last five years,” he said.

And while, it is always encouraging to see a declining rate of injuries, Hamilton added there is still more work to be done. “These are tough jobs and our people work hard, but, you know, we’ve made adjustments to the job,” he concluded.

One way Canada Post has been reducing injuries, according to Hamilton, includes the introduction of more mail trucks. The addition means carriers are not required to walk with heavy loads of envelopes for long distances.
