Seven people safe after multi-home fire in N.E. Calgary

Seven people are lucky to be alive after a fire broke out in two homes in Calgary’s northeast early Saturday morning.

When emergency crews arrived on Martindale Drive, shortly after 4 a.m., two homes and two detached garages were fully engulfed in flames.

Battalion Chief Al Magwood says the fire was so intense they had to call in reinforcements.

“Due to the large volume of visable smoke and flames, we called a second alarm prior to the first arriving aparatus. What that does is doubles the number of aparatus and man power arriving on scene,” said Magwood.

With the extra help, crews were able to get the fire under control quickly.

Everyone was able to get out in time and no injuries are reported.

Crews are still dousing hot spots at the scene.

Once it’s safe, an investigation into what started the fire will begin.
