The Tsuut’ina Nation and John Robinson, Chair of the group Don’t Damn Springbank, have issued an open letter to Calgary’s mayor.
They want to get together like neighbours, as communities did during the 2013 flood, to find a solution to the ongoing argument about where to put a flood mitigation dam.
Nenshi has backed a provincial plan to build it at Springbank, just west of the city, but many people who live on the Tsuut’ina Nation and nearby communities like Bragg Creek want it to be built further upstream at Mclean Creek.
The letter says one community shouldn’t be sacrificed for another, and is asking for sit down with the Calgary River Communities Action Group and local MLA and Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark.
Responding to the argument the Springbank dam would be the cheap and easy option, the letter argues costs are skyrocketing and it’s facing growing opposition.
