Glenmore Trail/Ogden Road Interchange ready for commuters

After two years of frustrating detours and lane restrictions, drivers can begin using Glenmore Trail between 18 Street S.E. and Barlow Trail on Wednesday morning.

“This is the first of four interchange-related projects that will be recognized this summer as part of the $250 million investment the City is making in connecting people with their communities, jobs, and destinations,” said Transportation General Manager Mac Logan. “The new six-lane Glenmore Trail and interchange at Ogden Road will help make sure goods move efficiently through our city and province to distribution centres and industrial areas.”

Glenmore drivers will no longer have to stop for trains within city limits and there will now be no traffic lights on Glenmore between Sarcee Trail in the southwest and Barlow in the southeast.

For those taking transit, there will be a more reliable bus schedule, and in the longer term, the bridge will provide an LRT crossing under Glenmore as part of the future Green Line LRT.

As well, there are improved sidewalks and pathways including a continuous pathway from 18 Street to 52 Street S.E. and to the regional pathway in the area.

Total investment in the project is approximately $90 million.

The speed limit on Glenmore from just east of 18 Street S.E. to Barlow Trail will remain at 50 km/hr until the project is finished. It is expected to be fully completed in late 2017.
