Wildfire prompts closures in mountain parks

By

A wildfire is burning in Kootenay National Park, and it’s forced a back country closure.

Parks Canada says the closure is needed to ensure the safety of users.

The fire is burning in the Verdant Creek region of Kootenay National Park, and the area off limits stretches to the boundary of Banff National Park.

Anyone who had a reservation in the area can go to a visitor centre or call Parks Canada at 403-762-1556 to find out their options.

No word yet on how crews are faring against the fire.
