This heat wave could be one for the record books

Summer 2017 in Calgary is shaping up to be a hot one.

So far this summer, we’ve already had five, 30 plus degree days, with another scorcher expected Saturday. The Environment Canada forecast calls for a high of 29 and a Heat Warning* is in effect.

“With all the models, and again we’re looking six weeks out now, it is going to go down as hotter than average,” said 660 NEWS Meteorologist Andrew Schultz. “And it looks at this point, to be drier than average.”

On average in Calgary, there are three to eight 30 plus degree days during the summer.

However, Schultz said that wasn’t the case last year. “We did it once all summer,” he said.
“That was in June. It was 30.9 for one day, that was it.”

This summer could be one of the hottest on record. Schultz has advice for those who don’t like hot weather, embrace it because come late November, you’ll be wishing for these kind of days.
