AMA out with road trip safety tips for long weekend

The roads are expected to be packed Thursday as people get a jump on the long weekend.

The Alberta Motor Association is out with some tips to help make sure you get to your destination safely.

Driver Education Manager Ron Wilson says you may want to give yourself a little more following distance behind the vehicle in front of you.

“And if you’re following behind a motorcycle, we’ll have motorcycles out there this weekend, they can stop quicker than a motor vehicle so again, give them a little more following distance. Give yourself lots of space around larger vehicles: there could be people pulling a fifth wheel, things like that. So, give lots of space when you’re passing and don’t pass unless it’s safe,” Wilson said.

Wilson says it is also important to drive to conditions and reminds everyone the posted speed limit is for ideal conditions.
