“She was always there for you” — Crowd funding site set up for longtime Inglewood resident

Brownie leader, animal lover and longtime member of Calgary’s Inglewood community, Cheryl Christmas, 50, was the fatal victim of a crash near the town of Strathmore on Tuesday, June 20th.

Her two children, Megan and Henry Roy — both in their mid-20s— have put together a GoFundMe page to cover the costs they’ll incur in the wake of their mother’s sudden death.

Megan Roy says her mother was an amazing part of the Calgary community and only moved just east of the city a year ago.

“She started volunteering through Girl Guides, she became a Lion’s member through Inglewood. She was always seen in and about because she was always working in the community as well at a law office, at a credit union — she was everywhere,” said Roy.

On the evening of June 20, emergency crews responded to the crash involving a tanker trunk and a private bus along Glenmore Trail east at Highway 791.

The intersection was shut down for several hours. Many people were seriously hurt and Christmas later succumbed to her injuries.

A celebration of life will be held Christmas in Inglewood. Additional funds raised will be donated to the Calgary Humane Society in Christmas’ honour.

To donate head to the Cheryl Christmas Celebration of Life GoFundMe page.
