The second annual Reaching the Summit for Mental Health and Wellness is kicking off Saturday.

The climb is an initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for veterans and their families suffering from PTSD and other forms of mental illness.

Barry Ashton, director of Reaching the Summit Project, said there will be two different routes to reaching the Mount Burke Summit.

“From the Etherington Creek campsite, the trail head there, this will begin at 9 am on Saturday,” Ashton said.

Ashton adds that it is important for people to get involved.

“To raise some funds, which would help offset the costs for non clinical therapies for PTSD sufferers.”

Last year’s climb raised over $70,000 dollars for veterans and the organization is hoping to beat that this year.
