The Metropolitan Police Service say the van that ran into a crowd of pedestrians leaving a mosque was a terrorist attack.
The incident happened around 12:20 a.m. local time ,police say one person was pronounced dead on scene,and at least 10 others are injured.
Members of the public were able to hold down the 48 year old man who was driving the vehicle until police arrived and arrested him.
The Counter Terrorist Command has taken over the investigation. The suspects identity has not been released and no other suspects have been identified or reported to police.
Prime Minister Theresa May called this a, “potential terrorist attack” and said her prayers were with all the victims and families involved in the attack.
London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan said in a release on his Facebook that this was clearly a deliberate attack on innocent Londoners, many of whom were finishing prayers during the holy month Ramadan.
