Driver hurt in early morning collision with CTrain

One person was taken to hospital, after a car collided with a CTrain in downtown Calgary Sunday morning.

At about 1 a.m., a car crossed the tracks at the City Hall station, where it was struck by the train.

“EMS responded to 7th Avenue and 3rd Street Southeast to reports of a collision involving a train and a car,” says Stuart Brideaux with EMS. “On arrival, paramedics determined two people had been inside a vehicle when it was involved in the collision with the train along the CTrain tracks. Both were able to self-extricate from the vehicle.”

Despite the car being severely damaged, after being dragged a short distance along the platform, the driver and passenger left through the sun roof.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to hospital in stable condition, but only as a precaution for neck or back injuries.

The significant damage to the vehicle contributed to the paramedics’ decision to transport the driver.

Nobody else was hurt in the incident. Calgary police and Calgary Transit are investigating what led to the crash.
