Friday’s tornado near Three Hills stronger than first thought

Environment Canada has upgraded the strength of Friday afternoon’s tornado near Three Hills from an EF-0 to an EF-1.

Officials now say the twister, which was on the ground for more than 20 minutes north and east of Three Hills, tossed an anchored empty grain bin 400 metres, shifted a semi filled grain bin and tore the roof off a barn, and destroyed an RV.

The estimated wind speed for the tornado was between 130 and 175 km/hr.

Meteorologists are still asking for pictures of any damage that may have been caused by the tornado.
