Calgary dog lovers show off their furry friends

A favourite event for owners and dogs is happening today at South Glenmore Park.

It’s the annual Dog Jog — a popular and important fundraiser for the Calgary Humane Society.

“This will be our 16th annual Dog Jog at South Glenmore Park. It’s our annual fundraising event and its a pretty unique event. It’s really the only run and walk that you’re able to do with your dog, with your dog by your side,” said Manager of Communication with the Humane Society, Sage Pullen McIntosh.

“It is a big fundraising event for the Calgary Humane Society. It’s one of three that we typically hold every year. And we’ve had a very busy spring. A lot of animals coming into our shelter. So this is certainly, a high need for us at this time.”

Participants have the choice to run or walk with their pooch, either a 2.5 or 5 kilometre course.

The event is family friendly with a kid’s zone which includes bouncy houses and face painting. For the pups, there is a Paw Spa.

And new this year are behaviour class demonstrations and the Mutton Mingle beer garden.

The fun-filled event gets underway at 10 a.m. and runs till 4 p.m.
