Body of missing Cache Creek fire chief located

CACHE CREEK (NEWS 1130) – The Ashcroft RCMP have confirmed that the body of missing Cache Creek fire chief Clayton Cassidy was found late Saturday evening.

Cassidy had been missing since May 5, and was believed to have been swept away while checking flood levels. Dozens of crews had searched for the fire chief, but the search was suspended in the middle of this month.

About 10:30 p.m. Saturday,  the Ashcroft RCMP was advised that the body of missing person Clayton Cassidy was located in Cache Creek. He was found by the Ashcroft fire department during the daily patrol of Cache Creek.

Ashcroft RCMP, Search and Rescue technicians from Kamloops and the Ashcroft Fire Dept, worked throughout the night.

Recovery efforts are continuing. Mr Cassidy’s body was located a short distance away from the bridge wash out area.

It is felt that a recovery will be safely completed today. The Ashcroft RCMP have notified MR Cassidy’s family and are providing support, said Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

Cassidy was given a Medal of Good Citizenship by the BC government last year for his efforts helping Cache Creek residents during a devastating flood in May 2015.
