Canada’s Greatest Animal has been chosen in a campaign by the Calgary Zoo.
The grey wolf has won the coveted title with 26 per cent, or 3,000 votes.
The beaver came in a close second with 2,500 votes.
The Calgary Zoo’s goal was to celebrate Canada’s diverse wildlife and call attention to the country’s list of endangered animals.
Eleven more species have been added to the list since the campaign launched in March.
The zoo says it has ramped up programs to support the burrowing owl, northern leopard frog, whooping crane and greater-sage grouse.
