Thousands of Stamps fans made their way to Fanfest at McMahon

It was the unofficial kickoff to the Calgary Stampeders season as fans filed into McMahon Stadium for Fanfest on Saturday.

Everyone was decked out in their Stamps gear as they participated in a variety of events and even got to meet some of the players and get their picture taken with the Grey Cup.

There is a lot of buzz around the team and fans like Dwayne were excited for the 2017 campaign.

“I bring my son every year and we love coming to the stadium, love buying hot dogs and pizza, and love having the season tickets we have had for the past 21 years, and this is a huge part of out summer,” Dwayne said.

For other fans there is only one thing on their mind and that is redemption from last year after a tough loss in the Grey Cup game.

Stampeders fullback, Rob Cote said he is excited to be back in front of the hometown crowd.

“We want to give them a good show every time we step on the field, we know they paid money to watch us win and we want to try and do just that,” said Cote.

He was also extremely pleased with the amount of people who attended Fanfest and showed their support.

“It’s a lot of fun, everybody is excited, you can tell because it was a little brisk this morning and still to have the lineup and the attendance that we had, shows everyone is enthusiastic and excited for another year,” Cote added.

The pre-season will get underway for Calgary, at home, against the B.C. Lions on June 6 and then the home opener will take place on June 29 against the defending Grey Cup Champion Ottawa Redblacks.
