Vinyl, collectibles and more go up for grabs at Music Collector’s Show

Music lovers turned out in droves Sunday for the first Music Collector’s Show of the year in Calgary.

Vinyl records took centre stage, as dozens of vendors brought countless records, CDs, and other music memorabilia such as guitars and posters.

Most of the sellers are just private collectors clearing out some of their collection, including Jed, who’s in it for the people.

“It’s not about the revenue. I mean, yeah, I may make a thousand bucks but so what, right? It’s just the community mostly. Hanging out with like-minded people, talking music.”

Benny jetted down here from Edmonton to sell his wares available on his online store, and also tells 660 NEWS an event like this isn’t about making money.

“Oh, the people. It’s great. When you see somebody looking at an album and their eyes just get big, they get all excited, that makes me happy. It’s really good, the stories are great too, hearing people talk about the albums and falling back in time to when they were young and they listened to it for the first time. Yeah, it’s a great experience.”

Mckay had some rare and valuable framed records for sale, and he sees vinyl continuing to get popular.

“To a certain extent, it’s just like everything else, it kind of peaks up, the market gets to a certain level and you can’t push it any more. But it’s probably got room to grow, I don’t really know how to forecast things that accurately. I like it, It’s more of a hobby for me than a business.”

Mckay also adds that any money he makes through a show like this goes right back into buying more records, to keep the hobby going.

If you missed out on the sale, don’t worry as it will be back at the Acadia Recreation Complex on October 22.
