Happy ending to Calgary police cold case involving stolen bike

Calgary police investigators can now close the chapter on a cold case involving a stolen bicycle that went missing almost 18 years ago.

They were called to the southeast community Acadia earlier this week over reports of an abandoned bike near a residence.

After retrieving the bike, they spoke with the homeowner, canvassed the neighbourhood, looked for video and then checked the database.

Officers discovered it was reported stolen in September 1999 and with the assistance of a police partner agency in Ontario, they located the owner.

She has since moved out of province.

Police are hoping this story serves as a reminder that accurate reporting of a crime can lead to a successful conclusion.

Officials say the woman was impressed with the “tenacious attitude of the Calgary Police Service.”

The bicycle will now be donated, at the owner’s request, to children with disabilities.
