Police hunt for suspect after stabbing death at Sunalta LRT Station

Police are investigating a fatal stabbing on the Sunalta LRT platform in Calgary’s southwest.

The Calgary Police Service says 9-1-1 callers reported two men fighting on the stairs at about 11:20 Friday night.

“There was simply an altercation between two men,” said Staff Sgt. Rob Anderson. “The details of that, we don’t know the relationship between the men or exactly what transpired between the two.  We’re looking to speak to the suspect involved in this in order to obtain his version of events.”

According to AHS, paramedics declared the man dead on scene.

The Homicide Unit shut down the station and cordoned off the area to canvass for witnesses.

The station reopened just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, but officers still had a park across the building taped off.

They were looking for evidence of the attack in the green space.  At that time, a weapon tied to the stabbing had not been found.

The victim has been identified but officers were still working to notify family members.  An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is expected to take place within a few days.

“CCTV from the Sunalta LRT Station has assisted us greatly and the name and the location of the suspect is not yet known at this time,” said Anderson.

CPS is asking the public for help identifying the man.
