Calgary Flames ready to leave for Anaheim

The Calgary Flames hit the ice Tuesday for their final practice before leaving for Anaheim to begin their Stanley Cup playoff journey.

“Today, we talked about what we need to do going forward,” explained head coach Glen Gulutzan. “That’s the message. We’re just talking about where we need to take this series and the importance of certain elements in the playoffs. We relied on lots of our guys today with experience to talk.”

Over the span of the team’s regular season series, Anaheim went 4-1-0.

Despite being the underdogs when looking at the stats, Flames players said they’re ready for the challenge.

“They’re physical and they play hard each and every shift,” said forward Kris Versteeg about the Ducks. “We have to be ready for those battles. We expect a lot of physicality throughout the series. We have big boys, too. We’re going to hit back. It’s going to be physical and we’re excited about that part.”

Game 1 between Calgary and Anaheim goes Thursday at 8:30 p.m. You’ll be able to tune in on Sportsnet 960 The Fan or by watching on CBC.
