Experts from around the world are in Calgary this week to talk about how to support communities after a natural disaster.
It’s part of a special workshop organized by the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary.
Researcher Julie Drolet has plans to build a province-wide network of social workers who can be ready to help after disasters such as the 2013 floods or the Fort MacMurray wildfire.
Some of the experts speaking at the workshop are Robin Ersing from the University of South Florida who is talking about the impact of hurricanes and Desley Hargreaves from the University of Queensland who will discuss the work of social workers after the 2002 bombing in Bali and the 2009 Black Saturday Australian bushfires.
