From President Trump to peacekeeping; Liberal caucus wraps up in Ottawa

OTTAWA – The governing Liberal caucus has wrapped up two days of discussions in Ottawa touching on everything from peacekeeping to the Trump administration.

Prime Minister Trudeau says he’s not ruling out sending troops on a peacekeeping mission this year, but hasn’t told the United Nations what it is willing to do.

Last year the government promised to provide up to 600 troops and 150 police officers for U-N peacekeeping operations.

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says caucus also discussed the government’s efforts to build a strong relationship with the Trump administration.

Trudeau says his caucus is more united then ever, despite the fact backbenchers have been exercising the freedom Trudeau promised them with more free votes.

Trudeau says one of the great strengths of his party is that there is always a range of perspectives that allow us to represent the different perspectives of Canadians.
