Flames goalie named NHL star of the week

Calgary Flames goaltender Brian Elliott is one of the NHL’s three stars of the week.

Elliott helped power the Flames’ recent surge by going 3-0-0 with a 1.95 goals-against average and .926 save percentage last week.

In Sunday night’s win over the Los Angeles Kings, he earned his 11th consecutive victory to tie Mike Vernon (Jan. 17 – Feb. 27, 1989) for the longest such run by a goaltender in franchise history.

Elliott owns a 23-13-3 record with a 2.46 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and two shutouts in 41 appearances this season, his first with the Flames.

The Flames currently sit third in the Pacific Division with 86 points. They begin a three-game road trip Tuesday with a stop in Washington.

Boston Bruins left-wing Brad Marchand and Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby also earned player of the week honours.
