Two families displaced by Calgary condo fire

Flames were shooting from the first floor of a condo complex in southeast Calgary late Saturday night.

One family of five managed to escape the blaze, while another family of five living next door had to be moved out as well, as a precaution.

Firefighters were called to the scene in the 1300 block of 52 Street S.E. just before 11:30 p.m.

Crews found flames in the main floor of the home, but believe the fire started in the basement. It also extended into the second floor before they knocked down the blaze.

Firefighters remained on scene overnight to monitor hot spots. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

There’s no word on where the two families spent the night.
