Flames fan declared legally blind sees game for first time

A young girl declared legally blind at the age of two saw a Calgary Flames game for the very first time.

11 year old Oliva Lettich spent her Sunday at the Scotia Bank Saddledome hanging out with the players and watching the game.

Olivia says she never thought she would get to experience anything like this.

“I’m so excited and it’s so cool how I get to see the players, it means a lot.”

Olivia was only four months old when was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma and had to undergo nine rounds of chemotherapy and 50 radiation treatments in an effort to save her eyes but unfortunately lost the right one at the age of two.

She can now see though thanks to a pair of electronic glasses from eSight, which has camera inside that projects what is in front of the user in high definition and clarity.

Jeff Fenton director of marketing at eSight says when they found out Oliva was a die hard flames fan they wanted to do something special so they approached the Flames foundation.

“They’ve gone above and beyond in helping her see players on the bench, fist-bumping as they come out even standing with the anthem signer so it’s just been an amazing experience and the flames have been awesome to really give Olivia a ounce and a lifetime opportunity.”

eSight is a Toronto based company who help people with vision loss actually see and independently carry out everyday activities.
