Premier Notley embarks on trade trip to Washington

Premier Rachel Notley flies to Washington, D.C., Sunday in an effort to reinforce trade relationships with the U-S.

According to provincial stats, trade between Alberta and the U-S last year totalled more than $84.4 billion.

$68 billion worth of goods was exported from our province State-side in 2016.

Notley’s trip south comes at a particularly touchy time, with concerns over President Donald Trump’s next move, his new “buy American” stance and his increasingly protectionist trade measures.

The premier has said it’s important to keep reminding U-S representatives how important Alberta is to their country.

In a news release, she says the province’s trade with the U-S creates jobs for millions of Americans and Albertans, and strengthening the relationship will grow the economy on both sides of the border.

Notley will be holding three days of meetings, has scheduled a media availability on Tuesday and plans to head home Wednesday.
