Alberta communities heat up for Valentine’s Day, beating weather records

Tuesday was the hottest Valentine’s Day ever in several Alberta communities, and it had nothing to do with romance.

Environment Canada said it was the warmest February 14 since they started keeping records in ten spots in the province, but not in Calgary.

The westerly flow of mild pacific air pushed the temperatures to a summer like 17.3 degrees in Claresholm, beating the old record by almost five degrees and making the community the hottest spot in the country.

Lethbridge, Sundre, Coronation and Cold Lake were also among the record breakers Tuesday.

Calgary came within a few tenths of a degree of beating the old record of 12.2 degrees set back in 1916.
