Ron MacLean in Cochrane for Rogers Hometown Hockey

Great weather and tonnes to do in Cochrane Sunday, with the town in the national spotlight.

All sorts of events are happening with Rogers Hometown Hockey, including an appearance by Calgary’s own Paul Brandt.

Canadian hockey icon Ron MacLean is there with the broadcast to start at 5 o’clock.

MacLean hosted Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night and hopped on a flight out west Sunday morning.

He told 660 NEWS, there is a lot more to Cochrane than meets the eye.

“It’s funny, I kind of thought to myself ‘Cochrane, how much could there be to say about Cochrane?’ And now I’m just, oh my God, how are we every going to get it all in. So you start to research maybe ten days out and the Cochrane story is as impressive as any town we’ve visited,” he said.

MacLean is especially touched by the story around the Kimmet Cup, a 3 on 3 hockey tournament to remember Lindsay Kimmet, a promising young medical student from
the town, killed in a car crash.

A number of the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Inferno are in Cochrane for various events, including the Kimmet Cup, which also benefits the Children’s Wish Foundation, among other charities.
