Hitmen end slide with shootout win over Broncos

Tristen Nielsen scored the winner in round eight of the shootout, lifting the Calgary Hitmen to a 3-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Goaltender Kyle Dumba turned in a sterling performance for the Hitmen.

Down the stretch he made several big saves in the final minutes of regulation before stopping seven of eight Broncos in the shootout.

The Hitmen overcame deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals from Matteo Gennaro and Brady Reagan.

It was Reagan’s power play marker that forced overtime with 5:48 remaining.

Ryley Lindgren scored both goals for Swift Current which was outshot 34-23.

The Hitmen, 20-26-7-2, wrap up their three-in-three weekend with a visit to Rogers Place in Edmonton Sunday.

Calgary then returns home next Friday to host the Oil Kings in the backend of a home-and-home set on Feb. 17.

Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
