Strathmore Walmart evacuated after bomb threat

RCMP had to evacuate the Walmart in Strathmore because of a bomb threat just before noon on Tuesday.

After a lengthy search, officers were unable to find any explosives or the person responsible for calling in the threat.

Employees of the store, which is located east of Calgary, had to move their vehicles to another nearby parking lot and were forced to wait out the investigation.

“It’s a serious incident because you look at all the people that it ties up, all of the man hours, with the fire department, community peace officers,” explained Staff Sgt. Kevin O’Dwyer. “The store employees have to be outside and they can’t go to work. It is serious. It involves a lot of people.”

The K-9 unit was called in from Airdrie to assist.

According to RCMP, the investigation will take some time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3535.
