Early detection was key to winning prostate cancer battle: Bret Hart

Bret ‘the Hitman’ Hart says he’s 100 per cent recovered a year after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer.

Hart says he feared the worst, but benefited from early detection.

The situation is not the same for his older brother, Smith, who also has prostate cancer.

“He didn’t monitor it and he didn’t take care of it early and he’s looking at — he may have a year left to live now,” Hart said.

“You know, it’s so critical for me to stress to your listeners that it’s just a blood test. You gotta go in and get a blood test. If you’re a man over 40, you need to go in. You don’t want to be like my brother, Smith, who’s a guy that didn’t worry about it and it’s too late now.”

Hart will be at the Prostate Cancer Centre Friday, February 10 to meet men who are getting a free PSA blood test.
