Northwest Calgary home destroyed by fire

A home has been destroyed after a fire in the northwest community of Edgemont.

Just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 7000 block of Edgemont Drive to put out a house fire.

Battalion Chief Paul Leblanc said it took a while to get the blaze under control because the wind helped spread the flames rapidly.

“Because of the size and the complexity of the fire we upgraded it to two alarms to bring more resources on scene,” he said.

Leblanc says it took about an hour to knock down the flames.

No one was injured in the fire but several homes in the surrounding area were evacuated as a precaution.
