Hitmen grab big win as they continue their success over Kootenay

A four-goal second period powered the Calgary Hitmen to an 8-3 victory over the Kootenay Ice on Saturday night at Western Financial Place.

Twelve Hitmen picked up at least a point, helping pull Calgary to within a single point of the final Eastern Conference Wild Card playoff spot.

Jake Bean with four assists and Jakob Stukel with a goal and three assists led the Hitmen charge.

Matteo Gennaro scored a pair of goals with Luke Coleman, Andrew Fyten, Tyler Mrkonjic, Beck Malenstyn and Mark Kastelic rounding out the scoring.

Imports Vladislav Yeryomenko and Andrei Grishakov also had strong performances.

Yeryomenko recorded three assists while Grishakov chipped in a pair of helpers.

Vince Loschiavo scored twice for Kootenay with Brett Davis adding a single.

Calgary outshot the Ice 33-18. Goaltender Trevor Martin made 15 saves to pick up the win.

The Hitmen, 18-21-7-2, are back home tomorrow afternoon on Jan. 29 against the Brandon Wheat Kings in a 4:00 p.m. puck drop at the ’Dome.

Highlights include a post-game family skate and autograph session with the entire team, free with a game ticket.

All participants under the age of 18 must wear helmet.
