Police Association continues to support president facing charges

The Calgary Police Association is offering its support to its president, a day after he was charged with perjury and assault with a weapon.

CPA Vice-President Mike Lomore says Sgt. Les Kaminski remains in charge of the organization, but the board is weighing all options and consulting members.

Lomore says it’s ridiculous it took more than eight years for the charges to come about.

On Tuesday, ASIRT announced the accusations against Kaminski and a second officer, Const. Brant Derrick, in relation to a 2008 traffic stop in downtown Calgary that resulted in the arrest of man who was charged with uttering threats.

A judge later acquitted the man and said Kaminski and Derrick were not credible witnesses during the trial.
