Man dies of injuries after shooting in city’s southeast

Police were called to a home in the 100 block of Douglasbank Way S.E. around 8 p.m. Monday for reports of a possible break and enter where a man was shot in the stomach.

At the time, officers said they were looking for two suspects, but Insp. Don Coleman says they’re now sorting through conflicting stories about what led to the gunfire.

“We’ve been receiving various degrees of cooperation,” he said. “Part of the challenge with these investigations is trying to determine what part of that cooperation is truthful and what’s not. That takes an enormous amount of investigative effort to do that and corroborate.”

A man in his 30s, who lives in the home, suffered minor injuries while his partner, a woman in her 20s, remains in hospital in stable condition. Police say she jumped out of a second-storey window to escape an altercation in the home, then ran to a neighbour’s house for help.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877, or leave a tip through Crime Stoppers using any of the following methods:
