Father administers CPR on child after youngster ingests noxious substance

Another reminder to parents after a scary close call involving two preschoolers.

The children are in hospital after at least one of them consumed a noxious substance at a home in the north east Calgary community of Pineridge.

Emergency crews were called to a home in the 3-thousand block of 56 St. around 9 o’clock Friday night.

When police arrived, they say one of the children was not breathing but the father was doing CPR and the child apparently regained consciousness shortly after.

The victim was taken to hospital in serious but non life-threatening condition.

Adam Loria with Alberta Health Services says they’re still trying to confirm what the substance was.

“We were provided a bottle, a 500ml water type bottle, speculated to be what they ingested but it was unlabeled so we weren’t a hundred per cent sure what exactly was ingested,” says Loria.

It is not confirmed whether the other child ingested any of what was in the bottle. That youngster was taken to Alberta Children’s Hospital in in good condition for precautionary reasons.

The incident remains under investigation.
