Calgary comes up big for Salvation Army Kettle Campaign

The kettles have been emptied, and all the coins and cash has been counted.

Despite a tough economy, the Salvation Army’s Christmas Campaign was a huge success.

Lt. Col. Larry Martin says the goal was $1 million and Calgary came through, donating $1.1 million.

“We did incredibly well. It’s amazing that the community has come together in such a strong, strong way. We were able to reach our objective and actually exceed it.”

He says it shows Calgarians who may be facing tough times themselves wanted to help their neighbours, and dug a little bit deeper this year.

“The need is continuing to grow, so depending on what happens to the economy, we will have increasing needs throughout the rest of the winter and the year ahead.”

Martin explains the money raised will help all year round, but support is always welcome and needed.
