Would you tell a white lie to secure a new home?

According to data from Equifax Canada, 13 per cent of Canadians think it’s okay.

The company says there has been a 52 per cent increase in suspected fraudulent mortgage applications since 2013.

Investigators say the most problems lie with falsified account statements and falsified documents.

Sixty seven per cent of the applications flagged were from Ontario, followed by B.C. at 12 per cent.

Equifax says there are serious consequences if you lie on your loan or mortgage applications and it’s against the law.
