Could this be the last bitterly cold day of winter in Calgary?

660 NEWS meteorologist Andrew Schultz is making a bold prediction that should make a lot Calgarians happy.

“I am stating that as of today, from now, through spring, summer and into fall, today will be the coolest daytime high we see,” Schultz said. “We won’t get colder than minus 16 any one of those days until next fall for the daytime high.”

Schultz realizes he’s sticking his neck out with this prediction.

“I’m looking at the long-term forecast,” he explained. “I’m looking at the patterns, the stats. It doesn’t look like we have any stretches of brutally cold daytime temperatures. It looks like that shallow, deep, Arctic air mass is going to be beyond our area and out of our reach.”

You should still expect some very cold temperatures especially overnight, but again, the prediction is day time highs won’t be as cold as Tuesday’s for the rest of the winter.

Yes indeed, that’s welcome relief for Calgarians, who have braved two bitter cold snaps this winter.
