Calgary police chief optimistic ahead of contract talks

Among the new contracts the city will have to hammer out in 2017 is with the Calgary Police Association.

Chief Roger Chaffin says officers realize with a budget freeze in place, there isn’t a lot extra money to go around.

“Everybody is in the same boat,” said Chaffin in a year-end interview with 660 NEWS. “Everybody in this province needs to find a way to make things work.”

“I think of the tens of thousands of people who have lost their jobs, and the challenges they’ve had, and our service has done well in the fact we’ve been able to do things differently so nobody’s lost their job,” says Chaffin.

Chaffin voiced optimism about upcoming contract talks with the police association, saying the CPS and the CPA have a strong working relationship and if an issue arises they will bring in a third party for mediation.
