Two Calgarians killed in crash near Innisfail, including Good Samaritan

RCMP say a Good Samaritan and the driver of a crashed semi are dead after a wreck on the QEII Highway early Thursday.

It happened near Innisfail around 1:40 a.m. when a northbound semi unit lost control and went through the median and ended up in the ditch on the west side of the highway.

That’s when the passerby stopped to help and got the semi driver out of the vehicle. A southbound semi hit some of the debris from the first crash and ended up hitting both people in the ditch.

Both died on scene and are from Calgary, though police will not be released their names until next of kin have been notified.

RCMP say speed, alcohol and road conditions are not considered factors in the collision.
